WAOKU LODGE, WHALE BAY, RAGLAN
Waoku Lodge guest testimonials
A surfer’s paradise.
Nestled into the beautiful lush bush, birds tweeting and sheer tranquility was our lovely villa. Spoilt for choice of surfing beaches. If you are a yogi this is your place. Foodies delight too, down in the village. Or have the wonderful hostess surprise you with gorgeous dinners at night as an extra. I think they are introducing a new package – well worth checking out. We loved it. Only a short drive from Hamilton Airport.
– Lynn, Christchurch.
Fabulous. Perfect for our special occasion.
We were impressed as we were shown around our unit. It is spacious well planned and our every wish provided for. We chose the cheese basket which was generous and delightful. It lasted us two days of nibbles. The views are second to none, full privacy, tranquil setting with outstanding sea views and very accommodating staff. We ordered dinner for our special night and had no expectation of a five star restaurant meal however, all three courses were generous and beautiful. It was so fabulous sitting out on our deck having a romantic dinner with all the comforts of home and no dishes to do.
Simplicity is the key, just amazing!
As soon as I arrived in Raglan I felt straight away the “chill surf vibes” of the place and Waoku Lodge is the best place that you can be if you are looking for comfort, relaxing, quiet, amazing views, clean rooms and friendly stuff. Everyone is welcoming, and the place is stunning. I couldn’t ask more. Every apartment has two bedrooms, so was plenty of space for me and my partner. Everything we needed for cooking we found in the kitchen that was fully furnished, plus we had our own BBQ too! We had a dinner and breakfast and I was very happy to notice that they are selecting carefully their products, supporting the Raglan community. The food was daily fresh, organic, local..delicious! Plus we have our own spa and an amazing, relaxing massage. Definitely one of the best five star resorts I ever been! I paid the full price on everything, and, because I have been lucky enough to travel a lot in my life, I found the price absolutely fine for my standard. In any other country I have been I never felt like at home when I stayed somewhere. I really think the differences here is because the lodge is run by a family that are genuinely happy to have me there. Thank you so much Sarah and Sharon for make my trip so special.

Worth every single penny. Unreal views!
Gorgeous views, friendly staff, beautiful rooms and the outdoor spa is seriously amazing! Just a short stroll to Raglan town and for surfers….this place is literally heaven. Surf and play all day and unwind in the spa with wine and munchies. Private and unforgettable. GREAT place for romantic getaways.

We have been to New Zealand several times, but went recently with my cousin and her fiancee visiting from Canada. We had asked for Sharon to make dinner for us and we arrived to a very stunning place and had to most incredible meal! Sharon is a fantastic cook! The accommodation was stunning and it was great that the outside spa baths are private! No other villa or anyone can see you, so you can have a nice romantic spa bath overlooking the stars. We also had beautiful massages while we were there and would not hesitate to return to such a special place!
This place is absolutely out of this world. The location is perfect – as is the accommodation. Five star all the way. Our own private spa was ready for use when we arrived. What a great way to relax after a long ride – your own spa on your private deck with unrestricted views across the ocean. The host, Sharon, was incredible. Nothing was too much trouble and she brought us a delicious breakfast basket and lunch each day. She even gave us a packed lunch the day we left. Can’t recommend this highly enough. An incredible experience.

The gem of Raglan
Really loved our stay at this luxurious lodge in beautiful Raglan. Sharon is a delightful host and the food was as delicious as the view was stunning! Pretty romantic to slip into a full massage jet hot tub underneath the New Zealand night sky. Can’t wait to visit again.
Doesn’t come any better…
We arrived to a warm friendly welcome from Sharon who was expecting us and didn’t even want to see paperwork. The two-storey rooms had everything we could have wanted complete with NZ wine in the fridge and a huge spa on the veranda set to 40 and overlooking Whale Bay and the forested hillside. Our GPS had given us the Cooks Tour of winding roads to get there and so we got into the spa with a G&T and it was just so healing. The whole stay was magnificent, relaxing, unwinding, soaking, fun and all set in one of the most beautiful places in the world. Sharon could not be a nicer, more generous and fun host who looks after anything needed with a laugh and a smile. We were very sad we couldn’t be there longer and would recommend it to anyone. Thank you Sharon.

Amazing five star accommodation
We spent an amazing weekend here during winter. Spotless and warm. The heat pump was great! Our particular lodge had a private spa looking over the water which was awesome. The staff are very knowledgeable of the area and were able to organise courtesy transport to a lovely restaurant ‘The Wharf’.
– ESK, Auckland.
Super accommodation. Extremely well decorated, spacious apartment – beautiful art. The bathroom was also beautifully decorated and spacious. Our host Sharon was a delight. The views from the apartment are spectacular and we look forward to returning with friends in October.
A fantastic lodge beautifully presented. Views of the sunset, from the Ahi apartment. We had a superb dinner delivered to our apartment which is lovely and warm with a heat pump. Bring your own CDs and enjoy the Boise system (just like home). We look forward to exploring Raglan tomorrow after checking out the info supplied by Sharon who is such a great host.

Perfect location to unwind from your busy life
Waoku Lodge is operated and designed to give guests a beautiful relaxing experience in a gorgeous setting. Travelling with another couple and booking a separate room next door, we found Waoku Lodge was both private but also enabled us to easily pop next door to enjoy time together and sip champers in the deck spas whilst gazing out to the sunset over the ocean – our biggest dilemma was deciding whose spa we would use! Sharon was a wonderful host and one of our most memorable meals in NZ will be her delicious dinner of local mussels, lamb shanks and crumble dessert which featured veggies and fruit from her own garden.
– JP, Victoria.
Spectacular setting and service
This is seriously good accommodation. Spectacular setting, coupled with excellent personalised service makes it one you won’t want to leave. Our room, Ahi, which overlooked the ocean, had a fully-equipped kitchen, and was well-furnished with lots of space. Home away from home. Breakfast comes to the room each morning in a basket, filled to order with lovely goodies. Sharon is also an excellent cook if you opt for lunch or dinner. Indulge in a massage in your room – well worth it as Francesca is very good! We spent a week and it is high on the list for a return visit.
– Ziek, Brisbane.
NZ slice of paradise
My wife and had an amazing time staying at this beautiful lodge. Super friendly staff, immaculate rooms. You even get your very own private spa. Has amazing views of the ocean. It’s a great place to relax. This is the best place in Raglan to stay.
– Courtney, Hamilton.
Chill out in paradise (or closest to it)
Just spent five nights in this amazing location, have never spent so long sitting in a spa pool just looking out to sea and sky. If you want to have a laid back holiday in a quiet space, this is the place to be. Well done Sharon and Natalie. Great cooking and great massage.
– Jen, Christchurch.
Great gem of a property
We recently had five nights here and stayed in the apartment named Whenua and could not highly recommend the property anymore than we have. We loved our stay and Sharon and Sarah made us so welcome and made our stay most enjoyable. Great comfortable rooms, with all the comforts of home, beautiful modern, functional kitchen and the most amazing views. We had a spa on our decking but did not use it, but could imagine sitting there with sunset drinks. We also had a lunch and dinner package and this was very good. Would recommend guests having breakfasts at local restaurants as these are amazing and with great variety. Hoping to go again with all our family. Very romantic setting.
– Deb, Melbourne.
Great way to relax and rejuvenate
Stunning views, great room and amenities. Customer service could not be faulted. On-site chef creates great meals (loved the breakfasts and lamb shank dinner) which are delivered to your lodge room by course (so that you have time to eat before the next hot course is delivered). Relax in the spa whilst sipping a local wine and taking in the vista. Thanks Sharon and Sarah for a wonderful stay and your amazing service ethic.
We stayed five nights in this luxurious, peaceful part of paradise. Sharon, Natalie and the rest of the staff could not have been more helpful or friendly, and the food was sensational: fresh, generous and delicious. Everything is meticulously maintained and planned, so that there is little to do but sit back and enjoy. And have a massage! Most highly recommended.

Whako! Waoku Lodge
“Whako: an expression denoting pleasure, delight.” We were truly delighted with our five night stay at Waoku. Luxury accommodation but with a nice homely feel – two-bedroom modern, open-plan apartment, beautifully decorated and well equipped. A most comfortable bed, an excellent shower and hooray! actual bath sheets. The two-person spa a real treat for us particularly with its location providing a lovely view of Whale Bay. It was nice to be able to take advantage of the dine-in offer which was included in our deal. Spend some time discovering all Raglan has to offer!
– Marilyn, Adelaide.
Waoku Lodge is totally amazing. Situated high above the ocean with amazing views from a beautiful deck and hot tub. We recently stayed here for five days and absolutely loved the whole stay. After an horrendous year for our family, we needed a peaceful beautiful place to recharge batteries and Waoku Lodge was it. We stayed in Whenua and were more than happy with the entire stay.
Sharon and the staff, including Ollie the dog, are wonderful caring people. Nothing too much for them by way of advice of places to go, directions etc. We arrived exhausted after a late flight the night before and Sharon went to great trouble to make sure we would be provided with an evening meal despite not booking previously. This was much appreciated not to mention delicious. Those lamb shanks…! Breakfasts were amazing as were the lunches.
Of course it helped that Raglan threw up the best weather I think NZ has ever seen! Beautiful sunny days to appreciate the beautiful deck and views and cooler evenings to appreciate the hot tub and sunsets.
All in all, a perfect trip. If we return to NZ, it will definitely be to Waoku Lodge. Thank you Sharon, Sarah and staff.
– Trish, Coolangatta.
Stunning view and wonderful hospitality
Having just spent five nights in Raglan and Waoku Lodge all I can do is thank Sharon and her staff for a truly wonderful experience. The entire experience was top notch, from the superb dinner when we arrived, the delicious breakfasts and of course the stunning views. We will definitely be going back again.
– Karen D, Coffs Harbour.
Stunning view. Stunning place.
This is the most beautiful place my husband and I have ever stayed at. It was everything we were hoping for and more! Such an amazing view of both the beach and nature. The room was lush, bed super comfortable and spa was so very relaxing. Also very kid-friendly which is a bonus. The staff were so very kind and helpful! This is the kind of place where you can forget all of life’s worries and simply relax and enjoy, feel special and treated ! Cant wait to go back! My dream place.
– Leanne, Hamilton.
Stayed here as a family of four for two nights on our wedding anniversary. Could not have asked for a nicer place to stay. The views were beautiful and the accommodation was perfectly equipped. Free unlimited wifi was perfect (not like other places who advertise it and then sneak in a charge after a measly free half hour). Also a recent new addition of Netflix to the TV delighted our children! We had in-room dining on one of the evenings which was delicious and the table was all set out for us. Really special. The only negative (and not the owner’s fault) that we would take away from the stay was that we were absolutely eaten alive by mosquitoes! We would have liked to have used the hot tub in the evening but after getting bitten so much on the first evening we couldn’t risk being outside in the evening and kept the doors and windows closed! We did apply masses of insect repellent but these guys bite straight on through! So be warned!
– Katy and Alfie.
A little slice of paradise…
My husband and I recently stayed at Waoku Lodge for three nights. It was simply the most relaxing and peaceful location we could have hoped for. A huge thank you to Sharon and Sarah for ensuring everything was perfect! We would not hesitate to return for another visit in the future and we highly recommend the Lodge to anyone wanting to escape from reality.
– Lisa, Brisbane.
Simply stunning, would be back in a heartbeat...
Rooms are beautiful, unique, immaculately clean and very warm and welcoming. And that spa is the icing on the cake. The place is set in a beautiful, peaceful bush setting which is so tranquil and relaxing, and you barely know your neighbours exist. The personalised service is what really makes this place what it is – Sharon, Sarah and Natalie went out of their way to make sure we has the best stay possible. Nothing was too much trouble, and the food was right up there – you’d think it had come from a top class restaurant. We stayed in Moana, which was very quiet and private. The room next door, Whenua, seemed to be not quite as secluded but had better views, so it really depends on what you feel like. Honestly one of the best places we’ve stayed, cannot recommend enough!
– Kirsten, Sydney.
I, with my husband Peter, have just had a wonderful stay at Waoku Lodge, Raglan. Sharon, her daughter Sarah, (an excellent cook) were exceptional hosts and their staff were friendly and could not do enough for us. Raglan is a serene and lovely town with great cafes and the beaches very beautiful BUT the town should be grateful that Waoku Lodge is enticing people from all over the world to visit your special part of New Zealand. We will definitely be recommending this Lodge to all our friends in Brisbane and other parts of Australia. Also be sure to have the seafood chowder at the Harbour View Hotel (best ever) and fish and chips at the Wharf – yum, yum.
– Clare G, Brisbane.
Brilliant location, amazing scenery, lovely people...
I have stayed in a lot of accommodation that when you look at it over the net it looks great, but when you get there you look around and go yeah it’s ok, but not as good as it looked online. That is not the case for Waoku Lodge, when we arrived everything about the Lodge exceeded our expectations. The place as close to the ideal for us in terms of furnishings, view, gardens, and comfort. We could not fault it, throw in lovely food and wonderful management and staff and it was just perfect. I can’t wait to go back!
– RooneyGerard, Port Macquarie.
The magnificent beaches near Raglan must be where old surfers go when they die. And if they are smart old surfers, before they die they would choose to stay at Waoku Lodge. The best thing about the Lodge is that there is no TV and no mobile phone reception – and of course those are the worst things about it, especially on a weekend where NZ play Aust at cricket and in the final of the Rugby 7’s and the Auckland 9’s rugby league is on. But for relaxation and peace in a luxury bungalow this is very hard to beat. Wonderful hosts, great food, great views, we are coming back!
– Peter D, Sydney.
The most amazing place…
On the 4th of January 2016 I had the special privilege of being the celebrant for Christine and Paul who flew over from England to be married in this beautiful lodge in Raglan. It was the most amazing place with incredible views of the Tasman Sea. We were invited to join Christine and Paul and their family for a meal to celebrate their marriage. The food was as outstanding as the view ( I can still taste the salmon), all prepared on site by Sharon and her daughter. Wonderful place for a wedding.
– Pamela Thackray, Hamilton.
Just amazing, wonderful accommodation, perfect location…
We had six days/five nights at Waoku Lodge. From the moment we stepped foot into our apartment until the moment we reluctantly left every aspect from room facilities to food to hospitality from Sharon was amazing. We will come back and would urge others to spend a few days at this wonderful lodge.
– Alvin Clausen, Melbourne.
Our Ah-Mazing honeymoon location…
We recently got married (Jan 2016) and there was talk of not having a honeymoon due to our ten day pre-wedding Christmas and New Year holiday on Hamilton Island, Australia. BUT my now husband wouldn’t take ‘no’ for an answer! Good man! So up popped Waoku Lodge on Luxury Escapes and there we were… We had absolutely no idea what to expect, but we can only say the result was outstanding! Sharon, Sarah and staff were delightful and couldn’t do enough for us. It was a perfect location to relax and absorb the ah-mazing surroundings. Thank you so much we loved every minute – see you next year, hopefully.
– Natalie, Sydney.
The perfect location…
“We booked Waoku Lodge for our small intimate wedding. From our very first email contact, Sharon felt like a friend of longstanding and from the very first moment that we actually met she truly became one. She made us feel completely at home. She and her “family” of staff made our wedding a truly magical, relaxed day. Nothing was too much trouble. The lodges were absolutely magnificent and the view sublime. Thank you Sharon and your wonderful team for making our wedding such a special occasion. No wedding was ever so relaxed!
– Chris, Basingstoke
Heaven on earth…
My wife and I just spent four glorious days at Waoku Lodge, and it would be one of the best holidays we have ever had. The room was absolutely magnificent, plenty of room, upstairs and downstairs. It is self-contained, the kitchen has every mod con. The meals were magnificent, big servings. Please if you get a chance to go there, I promise you won’t be disappointed. Our hosts Sharon and Sarah were so friendly and obliging, nothing was too much trouble. I would sincerely like to congratulate them on all the hard work they do. Hope to be back soon.
– Chris & Brian, Adelaide.
Amazing romantic getaway…
Stayed here as a couple early Dec-15 and it was fantastic. We loved all aspects of our stay from the lush accommodation to the delicious breakfast brought straight to the table, to the spectacular views from the spa. What a place! Thank you Sharon for an outstanding property. Can’t wait to return.
– Kirsty, Melbourne.
OMG..perfection!! Host Sharon made us feel very welcome. Apartment was immaculate and well suited for our family. Walking out onto our deck took my breath away. The view over looking the water was stunning. Private spa bath out on the deck was our favourite….enjoying a wine or two and star gazing at night. Location was perfect. A beautiful quiet town with multiple surf beaches which kept the hubby happy 🙂 We will definitely be returning on our next trip to New Zealand.

Absolute luxury and relaxation…
Totally blissful finale to our New Zealand trip. The resort is perched on a hillside overlooking Whale Bay – the view from our apartment was breathtaking. What we liked most: the spacious self-contained apartment with an outdoor jacuzzi with incredible views. The yummy and well presented breakfast served in our apartment. The fabulous and very thoughtful host – Sharon. Massages on the deck. We felt pampered and well taken care of. If you are a surfer or an aspiring one, do not forget to sign up with the Raglan Surf School. Kayaking to the Limestone Caves from the wharf should be attempted.
– Starrynight88, Sydney.
I booked one night in this beautiful establishment for my husband’s birthday treat. This place certainly deserves its stars! It is professional, warm, friendly and the attention to detail is stunning. From the fresh chocolate eclairs filled with fresh cream waiting for you in the fridge as a little treat, to the amazing food that they serve you in your room. This place has it all. The owners and staff were smiles all the way, no matter how much pressure they were under with a full house. Hot tub on the deck, overlooking the most amazing views, my husband and I cannot talk about our experience enough! Seriously, one of the best places to stay ever. We have travelled around the world visiting some special places and this one is top of our list so far. Thank you so much to the owner and staff for a memorable and special evening and overnight stay. P.S. Comfy, clean bedrooms and two people shower were delightful too.
– Susie, Raglan.
A relaxing stay…
We had a fantastic three nights here at Waoku Lodge. The setting is magical and very peaceful. The bed was extremely comfortable and we slept well. The spa pool was just the right temperature and we enjoyed relaxing on the deck with the beautiful bush views and the birdlife. The food was amazing. Breakfasts very tasty and the three-course dinner was excellent. So much food! Service was faultless and the massage was the best I have ever had. We look forward to returning one day.
– Paula, New Zealand.
Hidden NZ gem…
It was our first visit to Raglan and we were very impressed by the lodge. Sharon is an amazing host offering wonderful meals where the portions are extremely generous and beautifully presented. The apartments are smart and tastefully decorated, the bed extremely comfortable and the private hot tub on the deck just perfect. Don’t overlook this place just because it is not right in the middle of Raglan – after all that is its charm. You will not be disappointed.
– Tyler, Nelson.
I have just returned from my visit to Waoku Lodge. We were the first guests to stay as part of a recent Luxury Escapes deal. Wow!! Where do I begin with how much we loved this place. From the beautiful, well equipped apartment with the most breathtaking view ever, to the relaxing hot tub on the deck, to the incredibly comfortable beds. Everything was truly outstanding. But the best part of all was the food and the service! Sharon, Sarah, Nat and co were just wonderful. So friendly and accommodating that we almost felt like part of the family!! Nothing was too much trouble. Sharon’s food was out of this world! Fresh local produce, handled with care and cooked to perfection. I am a serious foodie and I was truly blown away. Sharon has a real talent for cooking! We felt very sad at having to leave after our three nights, but we left feeling totally rejuvenated and relaxed. A must visit!! We will be back. And look forward to checking out their new venture up the road. Thanks Sharon and Sarah!!
– Jose C, Brisbane.
Lovely place to stay…
The lodge is handily situated approximately a 10-minute drive from Raglan so if you are visiting the area this place comes highly recommended. We stayed as two couples in the Moana Lodge which is situated at the back and does have a sea view but it also has a very inviting hot tub which was lovely to use on a clear winter’s afternoon. The room was tastefully decorated and looked extremely new and modern and the bathroom was spacious and very clean. The owners do provide a very inviting looking evening menu so you don’t have to step outside your room to eat if this is your choice. The owner Sharon was extremely helpful when after checking out discovered we had left some clothes behind which we resolved together, thanks. All in all would definitely recommend this place for couples wishing to have a relaxing weekend away.
– Peter, Thailand.
Perfect romantic retreat…
I surprised my lovely wife with this amazing location for our first wedding anniversary. It was the perfect place to run away too for a romantic weekend away. Great views, luxurious apartment with full facilities (not to mention fabulous staff including the massage which was pure perfection). We felt like this was a world away from anything and everything. Just what was needed. Nothing like relaxing in the spa under the stars and been able to hear the surf of Whale Bay hitting the beach. We could not have wished nor wanted for anthing else! We will be back!
– Mike, Hamilton.
The ultimate sanctuary of privacy and peacefulness…
We had a pretty rough start to the year, even having to cancel our original booking at Waoku Lodge, but Sharon held our room many weeks apart from our plan. Once we could confirm our stay, we arrived on a wet night, tired and spent. WOW, our lodgings, the spa, the privacy!!! all soon to be outdone by the in room meal service..and then the bed!!! This was such a special stay..the vibe was relaxed chic..restaurant quality food and service, hotel quality accommodation, all at one of New Zealand’s best coastal towns. Can’t wait to return.
– Grant, New Plymouth.
A perfect place to relax…
Such care and thought has gone into making Waoku Lodge a special place. We enjoyed a glass of wine relaxing on the deck, listening to the waves crash across Whale Bay, before sitting in the hot tub and watching the night sky. Rooms are tastefully done, comfortable beds, good kitchen facilities and well appointed bathrooms. A must stay in Raglan.
– RSW, Liverpool.
Short stay at Waoku Lodge…
Waoku Lodge is a lovely boutique luxury lodge set in native bush in Raglan, New Zealand. We visited and were lucky to stay for a short time in one of their beautiful suites with a large veranda with a spa. Rooms are well appointed, with great decor, super comfortable and relaxing spot. Sharon made us pizza which was great. Lovely friendly service. Thanks!
– Megan, Hamilton.
Arrived at night so didn’t get the full amazing affect of seeing that view but boy when we woke up the next day it made up for it. What an amazing place!! Everything about the Moana room was perfect, the outside area definitely topped it off though. Beautiful spa and scenery… woke up to the sound of tuis and whilst in the spa was greeted by a huge wood pigeon fighting out it’s turf with the tuis in a nearby tree. Will definitely be back ASAP! Thank you Sharon 🙂
– Jessica, Auckland.
Booked a night for my friends 30th and we were blown away on arrival, stunning views and lovely accommodation. One night of relaxation felt like we’d been away for weeks. Can’t fault the hospitality, looking forward to visiting again, thank you so much!
Peaceful and relaxing…
Awesome place, just what we needed. Time to relax and unwind and get away from our busy lifestyle. Beautiful native gardens, lovely spa to soak in and an awesome view. Thank you very much Sharon, you are an awesome host, and Olly (the dog) for making us feel at home. We had a wonderful weekend, cheers.
– Brody, Rotorua.
Magical Moana memories…
Had a ladies night away in pure heaven. Quiet, serene setting with a warm heartfelt welcome from Sharon and little Ollie. Unit is very classy, high end and tastefully decorated. Beds so comfortable, double shower is amazing, spa is gorgeous, felt really pampered. One night was awesome, will definitely stay longer next time. Set in a paradise, definitely recommend as a ladies getaway, truly felt like a holiday leaving everything on hold for the weekend. Thanks Sharon for making this absolute bliss.
– Sue, Rotorua.
Warm, welcoming, beautiful winter break…
We stayed in the Moana Lodge – five friends and loved it. Peaceful, slice of heaven, perfect for families, couples, girls weekend away. Very clean and Sharon was lovely to deal with – thank you Sharon! We all can’t wait to come back!! Our biggest regret was that we only stayed one night – but a good excuse to come again. 🙂
– Stick, Taupo.
Beautiful one-night stay…
Had a lovely one night stay in the Whenua apartment with my partner, we got engaged while we were there so will always be a special place for us. Lovely apartment with everything you would need for a night’s stay or a week’s. Beautiful view too, Sharon was a great host. Hopefully we will be back soon.
